Access to Sanitation

The sanitation, especially of the toilets for individual households is still an area that needs much efforts and works to be done in order to make India; especially the municipal and rural areas of the state Andhra Pradesh. The situation is not different over the Addanki, Municipality wards too! The problem of open defecation not only creates health issues alarmingly, but it, especially to women, girls and children, creates life-threatening, serious reproductive health issues, mental troubles and social issues too. Hence selecting such poor sanitation Wards and families, IEERD construct individual household toilets of using the latest technology of double leach pit latrines.

Our Ongoing Projects

“Access to Toilets for Poorest of Poor Families”

Toilets and all that is related—loosely called sanitation—play a hugely important role for all of us: not only in our daily lives as we spend time to relieve ourselves, but also for our sustainable, inclusive development. Toilets are crucial for the healthy development of people, not to mention children. So is sanitation – facilities and services for safe disposal of human urine and feces includes maintaining hygiene through services such as garbage collection and wastewater disposal. The overall purpose of good sanitation is to provide a healthy living environment for everyone, protect the natural resources such as surface water, groundwater, and soil, and provide safety, security and dignity for people when they defecate or urinate.

The State Andhra Pradesh is still remains backward in terms of toilets and sanitation indicators. Government has different claims and data, but the reality is far from them. And so seeing the plights of people/families and in order to stop the open defecation, IEERD with the magnanimous support of SELAVIP, Chile constructs toilets over urban slums of Addanki Mandal, Prakasam, Andhra Pradesh.
